NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) continues to monitor the skies for near-Earth objects that pose potential risks to the Earth. On September 25, three asteroids are on a trajectory towards the Earth. Although these asteroids may sound alarming, NASA ensures that none of them are on a direct collision course with Earth. According to Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), these space rocks will pass by a relatively safe distance, their proximity to our planet is being closely monitored by scientists. These asteroid flybys remind us of the vastness and dynamic nature of our solar system while highlighting the need for continuous observations of near-Earth objects. In this article, we’ll learn about three asteroids nearing the Earth on September 25. Is an Asteroid Hitting Earth in 2024? Know About NASA's Upcoming Asteroid Close Approaches, Assess Collision Risks and Preparedness.

Asteroids Approaching Earth on September 25

Asteroid 2024 SG

Asteroid 2024 SG is 14 metres (46 feet) in diametre. This asteroid is reportedly compared to the size of a house and will pass by the Earth at a distance of 110 lakh kilometres (approximately 682,000 miles). Asteroids and Comets: What's the Difference?

Asteroid 2024 SF

The diametre of the Asteroid 2024 SF is 52 metres (170 feet). The size of the asteroid is quite big and can be compared to that of an airplane. The asteroid will fly by the Earth at a distance of 46.3 lakh kilometres (approximately 2,880,000 miles).

Asteroid 2024 RK7

Another significant asteroid that will approach the Earth is Asteroid 2024 RK7. This asteroid is 30 metres in diametre (100 feet) and the size is compared to the size of an airplane. The asteroid will pass the Earth at a distance of 68.2 lakh kilometres (approximately 4,240,000 miles).

While these three asteroids make a close approach towards the Earth on September 25, they do not cause immediate concern. Their approaches highlight the importance of asteroid watch programs and the need to stay informed about space hazards. Even though the asteroids will make a relatively close approach towards the Earth, millions of miles still separate them from any potential collision course. These asteroids offer scientists valuable data and remind us of the vastness and unpredictability of space.
