Salesforce Layoffs Continue: US-Based Cloud Software Major Lays Off 300 More People in Its Latest Round To Streamline Operations, Trim Costs
Salesforce layoffs continue as the company announced its latest round to reduce more 300 people after laying off 700 in January 2024. The company reduced its headcount to streamline its operations and control its costs.
San Francisco, July 16: Salesforce, a US-based cloud software company, announced another round of layoffs to streamline operations and trim costs. The Salesforce layoffs previously affected several hundred employees, which led to 700 people losing their jobs in January 2024; in 2023, Salesforce reduced around 7,000 workers, and many employees learned about it after they had lost their jobs.
The latest round of layoff reports has affected over 300 employees, according to a Bloomberg report. The report mentioned that the cloud software company's job cut round was announced as a broader effort to streamline its operations, highlighting that the tech industry is focused on controlling costs. Salesforce spokesperson reportedly said that regarding the layoffs, the company assessed whether it had the right structure to serve its customers and fuel the growth areas. The spokesperson said that, in some cases, this would lead to a workforce reduction. At the beginning of 2024, the company had laid off 700 people and 7,000 last year (about 10% of the workforce). This latest round of Salesforce layoffs would likely have affected less than 1% of the company's workforce.
This year, tech layoffs have been common as many companies cut several roles to save costs, restructure their business, or for other reasons. These included UKG layoffs, OpenText layoffs, UiPath layoffs, Microsoft layoffs, Meta layoffs, and so on. The report mentioned that Salesforce previously said that its Data Cloud Product was among the key areas that drove the company's growth while managing expenses. As of January 2024, the Salesforce workforce was 72,682. It is unclear whether the company would continue to announce more layoff rounds; however, looking at the past, the company reduced people to streamline its operations and tried to control its costs.
