Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 SoC on Windows ARM Platforms Under Works – Report
Reports have surfaced stating, Qualcomm’s new chipset 850 will power upcoming Window 10 ARM laptops and tablets later this year.
Qualcomm is one of the top chipmakers among Samsung and Apple, which have been providing their users high-performance processors. The San Diego based company has produced a wide of array of processors that has powered the Android devices for more than 10 years. Qualcomm has recently been reported to be in works of a new processor specifically for Windows 10 ARM platform. Qualcomm’s latest processor 845 currently powers OnePlus 6 and is considered to be the fastest chip delivered to the smartphone devices. With the latest news on the upcoming chipset, Qualcomm will be paving its way to make a stand in the PC ecosystem.
The chip maker along with Microsoft last year launched a series of laptops and tablets powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC. According to the reports, Qualcomm Snapdragon’s next chipset will be 850 SoC that will power ultra-portable Windows 10 notebooks and tablets. The Snapdragon 850 processor will be exclusive for ARM-based Windows 10 laptops. The new processor will be a successor of Snapdragon 845 mobile SoC. As per reports, Qualcomm’s new chipset will be a performance-driven processor with 8 cores clocked at 2.96 GHz.
Currently, Lenovo is working on a device called ELZE1 which will be built by Compal. HP has partnered with Quanta on the Chimera 2. Both the devices are in talks to sport the new Snapdragon 850 processor later this year. Dell is also coming up with their new laptop codenamed Januss which will be powered by Snapdragon 850 processor that has two display. The Dell’s new laptop is expected to come with one USB-C port and features like cameras, electronic compass, accelerometer and gyroscope.
