Mumbai, April 29: ChatGPT-developer OpenAI has reportedly faced a privacy complaint in the European Union. Now, NOYB, a European Centre for Digital Rights, has filed a new privacy complaint on its complainant's behalf. According to a report, this complaint is filed against the AI chatbot ChatGPT's inability to correct misinformation generated about individuals. It has been well known that despite training, chatbots have frequently shown errors in producing accurate information.
According to a report by Tech Crunch, OpenAI faced another privacy complaint in the EU, filed by NYOB on behalf of a complainant. The report said that GenAI's tendency to produce misinformation set the new technology on a collision course with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). As per the report, because of GDPT, the personal data of regional users had been governed well. GDPR Compliance in European Union
It also highlighted that the GDPR compliance failure fines in the European Union could lead to up to 4% of the annual global turnover. Data Protection regulars could order the ChatGPT-developer OpenAI and the required changes to the information produced by it could be processed. It has become more vital for companies like OpenAI, which has been training its AI model ChatGPT with multiple resources. In 2023, OpenAI was compelled to make changes when the Italian data protection authority intervened, leading to a temporary shutdown of ChatGPT. The latest complaint, filed by an Austrian data protection authority, alleges that ChatGPT produced an incorrect date of birth for a user. The identity of the user has not been disclosed yet. These instances of misinformation, which the GDPR grants rights to correct, highlight the urgency of the issue and the need for OpenAI to address it promptly. On the other hand, NYOB reportedly said that OpenAI refused to rectify the inaccurate birth date requested by the complainant and failed to comply with its obligation to produce output produced by ChatGPT. Besides, the Italian data protection authority also opened an investigation related to ChatGPT.
