OnePlus 6 Effect: Samsung dethroned by OnePlus to emerge As a leader in the Premium Smartphone Market in Q2, 2018

According to the report from Counterpoint Research’s latest analysis, the smartphone market saw a growth of 19 per cent annually and 10 per cent during Q2, 2018.

For the first time, OnePlus has dethroned Samsung to lead the premium smartphone market space in India. The recently launched OnePlus 6 flagship smartphone has helped the Chinese phone maker to emerge as the fastest growing smartphone brand by 446 per cent in Q2, 2018. According to the report from Counterpoint Research’s latest analysis, the smartphone market saw a growth of 19 per cent annually and 10 per cent during Q2, 2018.

The smartphone space witness such growth because of more customers upgrades to 2018 flagship devices introduced by different Android device makers in the domestic market. Moreover, the increasing demand for the premium devices was majorly driven by new launch offers around the new launches. iBall Aasaan 4 Feature Phone for Senior Citizens, Launched in India at Rs 3,499.

As OnePlus 6 saw huge demand when launched in India, the Chinese smartphone surpassed Samsung to lead the premium smartphone space in the country. Moreover, the counterpoint also mentioned that India had been an important market for the Chinese phone making company which has contributed to about a third of the global revenue.

Also, the user base of OnePlus has been expanding with the rollout of every flagship product, and now it has started into record sales with the new flagship model. Moreover, the company is backing on social media as well as strong word of mouth marketing.

On the other hand, Samsung has captured a third of the total premium smartphone market in Q2. Moreover, the promotions of Galaxy S9 series also has been strong. Coming to another competitor - Apple, the American smartphone maker recorded a weak quarter as demand for iPhone 8 and iPhone X dipped due to seasonality and challenges concerning pricing.

As per the research from Counterpoint, OnePlus, Samsung and Apple contributed about 88 per cent to overall premium market in comparison to 95 per cent in the last quarter. This is due to the entry of new smartphones like Huawei P20 Pro, Vivo X21, Nokia 8 Sirocco, LG V30+ & others.
