New Delhi, July 29: Ola has been reportedly accused by MapMyIndia of copying its data for maps, As per reports a legal notice has been sent to Ola Electric. It is said that a legal dispute was raised after Ola introduced its own map service in India, known as Ola Maps. The alleged claim from MapMyIndia might put Ola Electric in a difficult situation.

As per a report of Forbes India, CE Info Systems, the parent company of MapMyIndia, has issued a legal notice to Ola Electric, alleging that the company copied its data after Ola Electric introduced its mapping service in India. Ola Electric, led by CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, is accused of duplicating proprietary data from MapMyIndia's API and SDKs to develop Ola Maps. Ola Electric Makes It Official To Bring IPO Likely in Early August 2024 and Plans To Reveal More Details on July 29.

As per reports, CE Info Systems said “You have duplicated our client’s API (application programming interface) and SDKs (software development kits) from proprietary sources belonging to our client to build OLA Maps. It is firmly stated that our client’s exclusive data has been copied/derived by you to further your illegal motive and for your unjust commercial gains.”

In July, the ride-hailing company switched to Ola Maps and completely replaced Google Maps. The notice reportedly points out that Ola Electric's activities breach the terms of the 2021 agreement, which specifically prohibits co-mingling and reverse engineering according to Intellectual Property regulations. By allegedly engaging in such activities, Ola Electric is accused of infringing MapMyIndia's copyright related to the source code. The agreement between MapMyIndia and Ola Electric reportedly included certain restrictions. Ola Electric was not allowed to combine the licensed product with any similar competing product.
