Nova Launcher Layoffs: Brand Company’s Popular Android Application’s Entire Team Laid Off by Original Creator Kevin Barry
Kevin Barry, the original developer of Nova Launcher of Branch company, has laid off an entire team working on the application, making him the only one working on it.
Chicago, August 13: Amid the ongoing wave of tech layoffs, a Chicago-based Branch company, parent of the popular Android application Nova Launcher, laid off an entire team working on the project, leaving only one person standing; original creator Kevin Barry. The Nova Launcher layoffs are significant because they affected all the staff members except the founder.
The recent round of Branch layoffs left Kevin Barry as the full-time developer working on the Nova Launcher application. He is said to remain in charge of the project and continue development. Kevin Barry posted on the official website announcing the layoffs of the Nova Launcher team. He started by writing, "I'm Kevin Barry, the original creator and primary developer of Nova Launcher." The Nova Launcher created further said he parted ways with some employees who were working with Nova. He said he recognized that the decision to reduce the workforce could have been a blow to some individuals who did a great job being involved with the project and company and would do so in the future. Barry thanked them for their hard work and wished them the best in their future endeavours.
Kevin Barry said, "I personally really learned a lot from so many of my coworkers and treasure my time with them." He clarified some things that, according to him, were causing misinformation and confusion about the Nova team. He said, "The original Nova team, for many years, was just me." Eventually, he said he added Cliff, who handled customer support. After Branch acquired Nova, Cliff continued working on customer support. The Nova Launcher founder further said he contracted Rob for some development work before the acquisition by Branch. He mentioned, "The three of us were the core Nova team." Barry said that he was the primary contributor to the application and will continue to control the direction and development of Nova Launcher.
