New Delhi, October 30: Netflix has reportedly secured a new deal with Universal which is expected to enhance its film offerings. As per reports, the new agreement includes a renewal of their exclusive licensing deal for animated films produced by Illumination and DreamWorks Animation, owned by Universal. The deal is said to expand Netflix's existing licensing of Universal's animated films with the introduction of popular titles from live-action franchises.
As per a report of The Verge, Netflix is set to add even more films from Universal to its collection with a new agreement. The deal will allow Universal's live-action movies to be available on the streaming platform starting from 2027. These films will debut on Comcast's Peacock streaming service before being exclusively available on Netflix for ten months. After this period, they will return to Peacock, ensuring that Netflix subscribers have access to these titles shortly after they leave theatres. What To Expect From the New Deal Between Netflix and Universal
According to reports, live-action films from Universal and Focus Features will be available on Netflix within eight months of their theatrical release. Netflix will have the exclusive rights to stream Universal's live-action movies for a period of 10 months after they first become available on Peacock streaming service. However, after the exclusive streaming period ends, the films will go back on Peacock, which is owned by NBCUniversal. The arrangement will allow Netflix to offer its viewers a selection of Universal's films for a limited period of time. Netflix has also reportedly obtained the rights to select titles from Universal’s collection of films. Netflix users can look for animated films coming to the streaming service in the future.
