Seoul, October 22: NCSoft, a South Korean game developer known for various games, will lay off employees amid its massive restructuring plan. The NCSoft layoffs will affect several employees, and the tech company is also said to ask for voluntary retirements and resignations from them. This news comes after NCSoft released its MMORPG Thrones and Liberty video game on October 1, 2024, across various gaming consoles, including Xbox, PlayStation 5, Mac and Windows PC.

Founded in 1997, NCSoft has launched various games for players, including AION, Blade & Soul, Lineage series, and others. With its new release, Thrones and Liberty, the developer gained quite a lot of engagement and success in the gaming community. According to a report by Vice, the Thrones and Liberty boasted 3 million players within just the first week and reached a peak of 3,36,000. The game clocked 24 million play hours among the players, and viewers spent around 11 million hours watching the gameplay on the Twitch platform. Activision Blizzard Layoffs: Video Game Company To Lay Off Around 400 Employees in Irvine, Santa Monica Next Month After Microsoft Merger.

The report said that the NCSoft layoffs would be implemented as a part of restructuring due to the repeated deterioration in performance and its sluggish new releases. The game developer said that the layoffs would affect a significant number of employees. Besides the job cuts, the company would reportedly ask the employees to resign and also accept voluntary retirement.

The report said that  NCsoft had been carrying out intensive management reforms. Last January, the company's subsidiary, Entree Soft, was shut down after CEO Byung-moo Park took office. Since his takeover, the employees were encouraged to resign from their development and support departments. Bungie Layoffs: Sony Interactive Entertainment-Owned Video Game Developer Going Through Major Changes After Its Second Round of Job Cuts, Says Report.

It is not reported exactly how many employees would be laid off by the game developer NCsoft, but the numbers are said to be significant. This is yet another gaming company that aimed to reduce its workforce by adopting restructuring of its business.
