San Francisco, October 23: Mark Zuckerberg-owned Meta has reportedly won the shareholder lawsuit against child safety. Meta's social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, have been previously criticised for being unsafe for young users, particularly teenagers and people below that age. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently won the dismissal of a lawsuit.

Reuters said in its report that Mark Zuckerberg won the lawsuit claiming that the company misled the shareholders in Meta's proxy statement about its ability to ensure child safety on Facebook and Instagram platforms. The decision was taken by the US District Judge Charles Breyer in San Francisco, who ruled that the plaintiff, Matt Eisner, had failed to show how the shareholders suffered economic losses caused by Meta's alleged inadequate disclosures. Elon Musk’s X Slammed by Indian Government Over 100 Bomb Threats Circulated via Social Media Saying Platform Abetted Crime.

District Judge Breyer explained that Meta was not required to detail the severity of the sexual exploitation of children and explicit content on its platform according to the federal securities law. Judge Charles Breyer further said that the company did not require Meta to detail child protection strategies if it decided not to accept. He further said that Matt Eisner "would have had Meta argued against its own recommendations and tout the benefits of the tools it ultimately rejected."

US District Judge Charles Beyer said that Eisner would have had Meta highlight its failures and devalue its successes and said, "That is not necessary." The report mentioned that the lawyers of Meta and Eisner did not comment on the situation. The lawsuit filed by Matt Eisner sought to block Meta from conducting the annual meeting of 2024 until the proxy statement was amended. It also aimed to void the results if the meeting was held and cover the legal fees and other costs incurred by Matt Eisner. TRAI Warns About Fraudulent Messages and Calls, Advises To Stay Safe and Report Suspicious Activity.

In June 2024, Charles Beyer refused to enjoin the meeting and said that Meta's assurances in the proxy statement regarding children's safety were simply 'aspirational' and did not justify Matt Eisner's lawsuit.
