New Delhi, May 25: Media Matters for America, an American journalism group, has announced a round of layoffs amidst rising legal costs and a shifting media landscape. The layoffs have affected around a dozen of employees, which was announced by the Media Matters president, Angelo Carusone.

According to a report of Times Now, Media Matters announces mass layoffs amid Elon Musk's legal battle. The group is carrying out these layoffs to remain sustainable and allocate resources effectively. "We're confronting a legal assault on multiple fronts and given how rapidly the media landscape is shifting, we need to be extremely intentional about how we allocate resources in order to stay effective,"  Angelo Carusone said in the statement. On March 30, 2024, the Missouri Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Media Matters, claiming that the organisation had not revealed certain internal documents concerning its coverage of hate speech on X in 2023. Subsequently, on April 12, 2024, Media Matters took legal action in the US District Court for the District of Columbia against Ken Paxton. Elon Musk Lawsuit Against Media Matters

Elon Musk's social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, filed a lawsuit against the Media Matters for America on November 20, 2023. The platform, now called X, accused Media Matters of manipulating data with the intent of undermining and sabotaging the platform's operations. In response, Media Matters claimed that X was allowing antisemitic content to be posted alongside advertisements, which led several major corporations, including Apple, Disney, Comcast and IBM to pause their advertising campaigns on the platform.
