London, May 20: AI has been one of the biggest game-changers in today's age, transforming many aspects of our lives. However, with all the good it brings, there are some concerns since artificial intelligence has become prominent in everyday usage such as layoffs. Geoffrey Hinton, a British-Canadian computer scientist and cognitive psychologist known as "the Godfather of AI, " recently warned about AI taking over many jobs and discussed its risks.

The Godfather of AI, Geoffrey Hinton, said that he was "very worried" about job losses due to artificial intelligence technology, according to a report by the Times of India. He reportedly called and expressed concern about the technology "taking lots of mundane jobs." Geoffrey Hinton further said that the world needs a universal basic income, and governments must establish it. The report mentioned that the Godfather of AI said that governments would have to pay individuals a "set basic" salary despite their means to those affected from layoffs. He reportedly worked at Google until last year and stated that artificial intelligence would increase productivity and wealth as the money would go to the rich, not the poor, who lost their jobs. He said it would be very bad for society. 

While consulting the people of Downing Street in London,  Geoffrey Hinton advised that the idea of universal basic income was good. He showed concerns about "extinction-level" threats were coming and reportedly highlighted them by calling them "quite scary". He emphasised that the AI chatbots that are more intelligent than humans might be exploited by "bad actors".
