New Delhi, July 17: Reliance Jio, the leading telecom operator in India, has introduced a new app called JioSafe, which is reportedly said to provide ultra-secure communication for its JIo 5G users in India. According to reports, JioSafe costs INR 199 per month for Android and iOS. However, the telecom company announced a special offer, making it free for a year. Jio users can send texts, make audio and video calls to other JioSafe users.

According to a report of Indian Express, JioSafe is one of India’s first messaging or calling app that exclusively operates on a 5G network, for this reason, Jio customers using 4G networks will not be able to use it. Additionally, this implies that it can only be used by those who have Jio SIM cards connected to a 5G network and own 5G smartphones. Jio Free Recharge Scam Alert: Is Mukesh Ambani Offering 3-Month Recharge for Free to Celebrate Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant Wedding? How JioSafe App Works

As per reports, Jio claims that its Jio 5G quantum-secure network is very safe and cannot be penetrated. The JioSafe app encrypts and authenticates all calls to prevent unauthorised access. Jio's 5G network is said to be safer than older networks like 4G or 3G, offering lower latency, higher internet speed and strong security features. It uses a 256-bit encryption and a technology called Subscriber Concealed Identity (SCI) to protect user identities. The JioSafe app marks secure contacts with a shield icon, which indicates protection from threats, while contacts without the icon are not considered safe. Reliance Jio Introduces ‘True Unlimited Upgrade’ Prepaid 5G Booster Plans; Check Details.

Is JioSafe App a Better Alternative Than WhatsApp and Signal

Given that JioSafe is a new product and can be downloaded for free at least for the first year, it could provide an interesting option to those who need a secure communication app. However, the availability of the app only in India to Jio 5G users may be seen by some as its shortcoming. Additionally, with apps like WhatsApp and Signal already well-established in terms of having end-to-end encryption and wide usage, JioSafe might take quite some time before being adopted by many people. However, this alternative may make sense for Jio users who prioritise security and are willing to pay monthly charges.
