Mumbai, July 17: A WhatsApp scam message went viral claiming that Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani was offering users a free recharge plan to celebrate his son, Anant Ambani's marriage with Radhika Merchant. The people who saw this message on the WhatsApp chat application, believed it was an authentic offer from Mukesh Ambani.

Taking advantage of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding, scamsters shared this message to lure people into a trap. Many reports have said the message about Reliance Jio offering a three-month recharge plan was fake, and to verify, news agencies reached out to the company. The telecom giant reportedly confirmed that no such plans were offered as gifts or freebies. Cyber Attack: Hackers Breach Server of a Bank in Noida, Steal INR 16.71 Crore.

Reliance Jio further advised that people should not believe such messages as they could lead to financial losses. The company said that users must use official sources like the MyJio app or trusted payment applications like Google Pay. The WhatsApp scam message about Reliance Jio's free recharge asked people to click on a blue link, which resulted in them landing on an unofficial website link. 

The reports mentioned that news like Reliance JIo offering three months of free recharge would be widely covered by the news companies; however, this was not the case. 

How To Stay Away From Such Fraudulent Messages?

To identify scam messages, people must check the message's origin and cross-verify with the official source.   • Verify if the message is valid by reaching out to the official sources

  • Look for the messages from unknown numbers

  • Avoid messages that ask for your personal or financial information without confirmation 

  • Do not call the number provided in the messages or click the links

Reliance Jio did not announce that it would offer a three-month recharge plan to the people on or after the wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. Sometimes, such fake and fraudulent messages could lead to financial losses by not staying vigilant.
