New York, July 9: iPhone users were recently targeted in the cyberattacks by hackers running a phishing campaign. The cybercriminals have been trying to get the Apple ID of the iPhone to gain access to sensitive personal information. iPhones provide users with robust security and better privacy; however, hackers have tried to send text messages to people using iPhones.
CBS News reported that iPhone users in the United States recently became victims of cybercriminals who sent text messages that appeared to be from Apple. The report mentioned that the cyber attackers tried this strategy to steal the victims' personal information.
Broadcom, an American multinational company involved in semiconductor manufacturing, posted on its website about this issue in detail. It said that due to the widespread use of Apple IDs, phishing actors have been trying to target Apple IDs because many people have been using Apple devices. By targeting them, the phishing actors have a chance to access multiple users.
The post also said that Apple's brand reputation across the globe allowed users to trust any message that seemed to be coming from the company, allowing cybercriminals to attract targets easily. The post on Broadcom shared the following message: "Apple important request iCloud: Visit signin[.]authen-connexion[.]info/iCloud to continue using your services." It said that the "smishing" actors would restrict access to their malicious website to the users on mobile browsers and particular regions to remain undetected by the monitoring systems. Like the official websites to confirm human verification, these phishing actors also implemented options to solve CAPTCHA images the users must complete. Then, the user would be taken to a page similar to the iCloud login page, making them think they landed on the right website. The Symantec Security Centre shared the security information on the Broadcom website.
