iPhone Factory Fire in Tamil Nadu: Investigation Launched After Massive Fire Eruption at Tata Electronics’s Apple Manufacturing Plant

Tata Electronics began investigation on its iPhone manufacturing facility after massive fire disrupted the operations of the plant and caused injuries to the workers.

Hosur, September 30: Indian authorities have launched an official investigation into what caused the fire at Tamil Nadu's Tata Electronic factory making the iPhones. The iPhone factory fire broke out on Saturday, according to the state officials, affecting 10 people who were given medical treatment and two who were hospitalised. Tata's iPhone factory is located in Hosur city in, TN.

According to a report of Reuters, the Tata Apple factory was expected to resume its production on September 30 after the holiday on Sunday after the major fire incident. Tata Electronics reportedly said that it would investigate the cause and take steps to protect the employees and stakeholders. The incident affected the supply chain and operations as the company planned to explore new markets for manufacturing other than China. The iPhone factory fire began in Hosur city around the area where the chemicals were stored. The administrative official K.M Sarayu stated that the fire was put out, and two more workers were hospitalised. 

K.M. The official previously stated that the incident was a "chemical hazard" and that it took time for the search and rescue team to go inside and assess the situation. During the fire, which broke out at around 5:30 AM, 523 workers were on shift out of 20,000 of the total workforce who were evacuated on time. One of the eyewitnesses, Savitri, said she heard loud sounds as if firecrackers were going off. Tata Electronics plant began following the emergency protocols to minimise the impact and ensured that all the employees were safe.
