Mumbai, September 12: Apple earlier this week launched the iPhone 16 series, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The new iPhone 16 lineup will be available for pre-orders starting September 13. The Cupertino-based tech giant offers an iPhone 15 series successor with new features and improvements. So, if you plan to buy a new iPhone but are confused between the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 15, look no further to these comprehensive details, which will give you a clear picture if iPhone 16 upgrades are worth spending your money on.

iPhone 16 vs iPhone 15 - Display & Design:

Now this might appear to be intimidating for some, but Apple has retained the size, shape and weight of the new iPhone 16. It borrows a 6.1-inch FHD+ Super Retina XDR from the predecessor, which is a 60Hz refresh rate panel supporting 2556×1179 resolution and 2,000 nits peak brightness. However, the camera arrangement has transformed into a vertical formation, as seen on iPhone X to iPhone 12. An upgrade seen on the iPhone 16 is the inclusion of two new buttons - Action Button and Camera Control button, wherein the former replaces the silent switch on the left side while the latter functions as a shutter key. iPhone 16 vs iPhone 15 - Processor:

The new Apple iPhone 16 uses a new in-house built A18 chipset which is a considerable upgrade over the predecessor that comes powered by the A16 chipset. Moreover, Apple says the chipset has been designed with AI optimisations, marking the tech giant’s focus on AI this year. The former also gets an upgrade in terms of RAM as it now comes with 8GB of RAM compared to the iPhone 15’s 6GB RAM. However, internal storage options remain the same – 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

iPhone 16 vs iPhone 15 - Camera:

Unlike the predecessor, Apple has introduced a pill-shaped camera design on the iPhone 16, which is reminiscent of iPhone X to iPhone 12. Though the camera upgrades are less significant, it continues to get the same 48MP primary shooter and 2X zoom lens. In fact, the 12MP ultra-wide camera is still the same but gets a faster f/2.2 aperture for improved low-light photography. Now the interesting thing here is this is the first time a vanilla iPhone model supports macro photography which was previously seen only on the Pro series. iPhone Exports From India Reaches USD 5 Billion During April-August Period.

iPhone 16 vs iPhone 15 - Battery, Charging and OS:

The Apple iPhone 16 might pack a bigger battery than the predecessor despite the same size and dimension. To back this, Apple claims that the iPhone 16 offers 22 hours of video playback which is a 10 per cent improvement over the iPhone 15. However, the tech giant hasn’t revealed the battery capacities. But the recent rumours suggest the iPhone 16 gets a 3,561 mAh battery. If this rumour is correct, it’s a 6 per cent jump from the iPhone 15’s 3,349mAh battery.

As for charging, the marque has upgraded the MagSafe charging speed to 25W on the iPhone 16 while the wired charging remains 20W (as offered on iPhone 15). Coming to OS, Apple will ship the iPhone 16 will iOS 18 preinstalled, while the iPhone 15 runs on iOS 17. However, the latter will receive the due update later this year.

Verdict:

Apple has incorporated a few not-so-significant upgrades on the iPhone 16 over the iPhone 15 concerning both software and hardware. With slight design updates with new colour ways, the Apple iPhone 16 stands out from its predecessor, which supports faster wireless charging and Apple Intelligence gets a two-gen chipset upgrade carrying a starting price tag of INR 79,999. However, the iPhone 15 would be a clincher, especially after a price cut.
