San Francisco, August 11: Instagram provides regular updates and new features to engage its users, and this time, the platform is planning to introduce a new feature similar to Snap Maps. Meta-owned Instagram is reportedly testing this new feature, which will allow users to post text and video updates to a map. The posted text or videos will appear on the maps and show the exact location where they were taken.

Instagram's upcoming Snap Map-like feature will let users share the map with others. This will show their updates appearing alongside each other, according to a report by The Verge. The report mentioned that the feature appeared a lot like Snap Maps, which was launched in 2017. At the initial stage, this feature is rolled out to select users, and once the testing is complete, the platform will make it available for all. Instagram Now Restored in Turkey After 9 Days of Nationwide Ban Over Not Complying With Law; Check More Details Here.

Instagram's Snap Map-like feature will reportedly have a limited privacy setting and allow users to share it with the "close group" or to the followers they follow back. The report mentioned that the Instagram Maps feature was spotted under the "Friend Map" title in February 2024 when it was in development. Meta spokesperson Christine Pai said, "The tool is opt-in and includes controls over location sharing" and added that the company would develop it while keeping the "safety" of the users in mind. Richard Dawkins Says His Facebook Account Deleted for Posting His Opinion, Elon Musk Responds Saying ‘Wow'.

The report mentioned that Instagram already had a Map feature in 2012 called "Instagram Photo Map", which allowed users to place all their images on it. However, it was a private feature and could not be shared with others. Because of its unpopularity, the feature was terminated in 2016. The new Instagram Map feature is still in development and may be tested by the company with limited users before releasing it officially for all users.
