Instagram Down Globally, Users Unable to Refresh Feed or Log In; Outage Comes Days After Facebook Hack

Photo sharing app Instagram was down across the world today for quite a while. Facebook-owned Instagram, where millions of users share their stories through pictures and videos, was said to have stopped giving news feeds. The message showing in the app when users tried to refresh the page was 'Couldn't Refresh Feed'. Also, the website showed a server error '5XX'. The issue was finally resolved after more than half an hour of users complaining of facing issues. Facebook Data Breach That Compromised 50 Million Accounts Was Not Hacked by a Third-Party App, Says the Company’s Vice President.

This outage comes just days after the Facebook hack that affected millions of users. Last week, Facebook admitted to having been hacked, which led to compromising of more than 50 million users. The social media giant addressed the breach saying it occurred due to a security issue, which led to hackers getting access to users' digital keys. “Our investigation is still in its early stages. Earlier today it was reported that the company did not find any third-party application intrusion use for the hack. "We have now analysed our logs for all third-party apps installed or logged in during the attack we discovered last week. That investigation has so far found no evidence that the attackers accessed any apps using Facebook Login," Guy Rosen, Vice President of Product Management at Facebook, said in a statement late on Tuesday.  Microsoft Introduces Surface Headphones Along With Surface Pro 6, Surface Studio 2 & Surface Laptop 2.

Rosen further said Facebook has fixed the vulnerability and reset the access tokens for a total of 90 million accounts -- 50 million that had access tokens stolen and 40 million that were subject to a "View As" look-up in 2017. "Resetting the access tokens protected the security of people's accounts and meant they had to log back into Facebook or any of their apps that use Facebook Login," the Facebook executive said, adding that "we're sorry that this attack happened". Ireland's Data Protection Commission, which is Facebook's lead privacy regulator in Europe, has asked Facebook to submit more details in the incident where data of over 50 million users were hacked.
