Vienna, October 3: Andreas Roettl, the Austrian CEO of the a tech comapny called Journi, posted on a popular professional network that he was good at firing people. He said no one would do such a thing, but "we should." After his post, Andreas Roettl faced backlash from the internet. He further explained that firing was as important as hiring because it would save the team's spirit and culture. 

Journi CEO Andreas Roettl published a controversial post on LinkedIn which said so much about firing employees from the company. The Austrian CEO started by saying, "I'm really good at firing people!... Because firing is as important as hiring". The Journi CEO kept emphasising the letting others go in his post. Journi CEO Andreas Roettl Says He is Good at Firing People

 

"Firing will keep your team happy and strong... Firing will save your team spirit and culture", he added in the post. Andreas Roettl said that at Journi, the team focused on training its leads so that they could become good at firing (letting go of) people. He highlighted a few steps for others to follow and practice to let others go. 

Journi CEO said that to fire others, the company has to teach its leads about past cases, analyse them further, and learn from them for the future. He emphasised that the leads should be provided with the necessary tools to assess the situation and advise on the necessary steps to take. He listed some of these tools, including an early warning system, personal development opportunities, performance improvement plans and strength development. 

Before You Really Fire Someone, Give Them a Chance to Improve

Journi CEO Andreas Roettl said that, just like soccer, the employee who is about to get fired must be warned for the first time. Then, he said that the leads should communicate about a performance improvement created for them, allow them to get better, and provide their support. The Austria-based tech company Journi's CEO further said that in the upcoming post, he would share a bit more about how his company handled layoffs. However, he said after laying someone off, the team felt better, and the replacement made it possible for the tech company to reach new heights. Andreas Roettl said he was better at handling the layoffs "1000x" times better.
