New York, October 21: IBM released its new AI models for businesses amid the rising competition of genAI. The new models, called 'Granite 3.0,' are introduced as open-source and join other models of IBM's Granite AI models family. The tech giant is struggling as it recently announced massive layoffs, cutting thousands of jobs from its global workforce. The latest attempt by the company will reportedly help it capitalise on the surge of generative AI technology.

IBM Granite 3.0 AI models would be made open-source, unlike rivals like Microsoft, which usually charges clients to access its AI models. The tech giant also offered a paid tool called "Watsonx" to help users run the models inside the data centres once they customised them. IBM said in its announcement that the third-generation models of the Granite LLM series would be powerful and practical. Meta Spirit LM: Mark Zuckerberg-Run Tech Company Launches Its First Open Source Multimodal Language Model To Offer More Natural Sounding Speeches.

The company said IBM Granite 3.0 AI models would deliver 'state-of-the-art' performance and help users maximise safety, speed, and accuracy. The new Granite 3.0 models are trained on 12 trillion tokens of data across 12 different languages and 116 different programming languages. IBM said these models were trained using a two-phase method. The company highlighted that the IBM Granite 3.0 8B Instruct would serve as a "primary building block for  sophisticated workflows and tool-based use cases."

The chipmaker said the Granite 3.0 8B Instruct would outperform models, which would be 10 times larger in the tasks and safety benchmarks. IBM also unveiled the Granite-powered Watsonx Code Assistant for general-purpose coding. The Granite is set to become the default model of the AI-powered Consulting Advantage platform, which is used by 1,60,000 consultants to bring new solutions to clients. WhatsApp Testing ChatGPT-Like ‘Chat Memory’ Feature To Boost Engagement of Users on Platform, Currently Rolled Out for Beta Users.

IBM Granite 3.0 family includes models in four categories: General Purpose / Languages, Guiderails & Safety, and Mix-of-Experts. The company said that these models had been designed as "workhouses " fine-tuned with enterprise data and seamlessly integrated to work for various business environments or workflows.
