Google had collaborated with Smile Foundation, an NGO in New Delhi to also include people who do not have regular access to the internet.
We all belong to the internet generation and with the easy accessibility, the misuse is on the rise than before. There are innumerable cases of cyberbullying, fake news and much other unsafe surfing. To prevent the kids from exposing themselves to a plethora of wrong information and unlawful practices, Google conducted a programme to teach kids. Serving as the right conclusion to their summer educational programme, they taught kids to make productive use of the internet and identifying fake news.
The Summer with Google campaign was for four weeks for children between the age of 13-18 years. Thousands of children from different states of the country were a part of this programme. During the assignments, children were taught tips and tricks about safety on the internet. How to make a strong password, identify spam messages and making safe transactions were some of the aspects covered.
Sunita Mohanty, Trust and Safe Director of Google India said, "Children are being exposed to technology much earlier than ever before and we believe that these foundational years are the best time to start nurturing their inquisitiveness and curiosity in the right direction." Children were engaged in assignments designed online for both real-world projects and combining virtual learning. Children from Kottayam in Kerala, Jalgaon in Maharashtra and Kapurthala in Punjab were a part of this. "Children of today will become tomorrow's digital citizens and we definitely want them to be advocates of Internet safety and spread the word," she noted. Out of the thousands in participation, 100 students were selected for the final event. Google had collaborated with Smile Foundation, an NGO in New Delhi to also include people who do not have regular access to the internet.
