Artificial Intelligence is a great tool in technological advancement. And Microsoft has been using it to help the people with low vision or completely blind. The Microsoft's Seeing AI application can now identify Indian currency, including the new ones which were recently issued. Along with Indian currency, it can also identify other four major currencies- Euros, US and Canadian dollars, and British pounds. The application is currently available for only for iOS users, and the new feature can be used once you update it from the App Store.
Blind people usually fold the notes of different denominations in a certain way to make the identification easier. But now to make it easier to know the different notes, the application will be very useful. The application is simple to use with the currency feature located at the end of the tab. A user has to just tap on it and voice assistant to speak out what denomination currency it is. It uses the camera to identify the currency note. The Seeing AI was introduced in July 2017 at Microsoft’s AI Summit in San Francisco. The application can perform a number of tasks for people with visual disabilities and impairments with the help of computer vision. It uses the camera to detect various objects in real-time. It also helps in reading documents, products with the help of bar codes, colours, handwriting and lights. It has a provision of customising voice tone and speech pattern to adapt it to different users. The application has completed er 5 million tasks for 30,000 monthly active users, according to Microsoft. The Seeing AI app is currently available in 56 countries. The latest update is a sure benefit for its Indian users.
