New Delhi, August 2: Google is set to introduce a new feature called "School time" to Android phones, tablets and Samsung Galaxy Watches. The upcoming feature is said to help parents manage their children's device use during school hours. The School time feature will likely allow parents to set a dedicated home screen with limited functionality to reduce distractions.
As per the information available on the official blog post, Google will bring School time to even more devices, including select Android phones, tablets and Samsung Galaxy Watches. Previously introduced on Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatches, the School time feature has been designed based on feedback from parents who want to ensure their children remain focused during school yet still can be reachable in case of emergencies. What is Google School Time Feature
School time is a new setting that enables parents to control their child's device usage during school hours. When activated, it restricts the device to a dedicated home screen with limited functionality. It helps to reduce distractions and keeps students focused on their studies. Parents can manage the feature through the Family Link app, where they can schedule school time periods and can also select which apps are allowed and permit calls or texts from specific contacts.
As per Google, the feature aims to create a more productive learning environment for students by minimising interruptions from their personal devices. During these times, the device will switch to a restricted mode for only pre-approved apps and contacts so that students are not encouraged to use their devices for non-educational purposes while in class.
