Google Photos will soon introduce an ‘AI Info’ section tohighlight AI-edited images to enhance transparency for users.
New Delhi, October 27: Google will reportedly roll out a new feature in the Google Photos app to let its users to know if images have been edited using AI tools. The feature is expected to introduce an "AI Info" section to identify and view the AI modifications made to photos. The new update is expected to improve transparency by helping users to understand which parts of their photos have been changed by AI.
As per a report of Times of India, Google Photos will soon show if AI has been used to edit images by marking AI-edited images with a new "AI Info" label. The label will likely allow users to view specific details about any changes made by Ai in the photos. Google has reportedly revealed that from next week, users will notice a sign when a photo has been altered using AI tools such as Magic Editor and Magic Eraser. The update will allow users to identify which images have been modified with these advanced editing tools. Currently, it has become more difficult to tell the difference between an original photo and one that has been edited using AI tools. It often requires careful examination of the images. To enhance transparency, Google will make it simpler for users to identify when AI edits have been applied in Google Photos. Previously, photos that had been edited with these AI tools contained metadata, which is additional information based on guidelines from the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC). However, the update will likely provide information that will be displayed within the Photos app itself with other important details such as the file name, location, and backup status. When users will swipe up on a photo or tap on the three dots in the top right corner, they will be able to view various details about that specific image. The information may include the photo's name, location, and backup status, as well as camera settings like aperture and focal length. Users are said to view details about the photo's resolution and quality, along with any information related to AI. Additionally, Google Photos will use IPTC metadata to recognise images that have been created using elements from multiple photos through non-generative AI features.
