New Delhi, September 28: Google may introduce a new tool in Google Messages to improve user experience by filtering out spam and phishing texts from international sources. The update will likely create a separate folder that will collect messages coming from outside your country of residence, particularly those that are not from known contacts.
Google Messages has a feature that automatically detects spam. When you open a message marked as spam, you will see a warning on your screen. Normally, these spam messages go straight to the app's spam folder. The app also organise your messages by sorting them into different categories, such as your Inbox, the spam folder, or an archived folder where you can keep important chats. To protect users from possible scam messages, the app shows a warning pop-up if you click on a link in an RCS message from someone you don't know. Google Messages is also taking extra steps to address this issue. As per a report of Android Authority, Unknown messages from international senders will be grouped into a “cross-country” folder. It seems that Google is developing a new folder to organise messages from unknown international senders.
Many people already have friends and family living abroad saved in their contacts. The new "cross-country" folder will gather all messages that come from outside your country, as long as they are not from contacts you know. As per multiple reports, the new system may be turned on by default, but the report indicates that users can choose to turn off the sorting feature if they want. Additionally, users will be able to manually label messages as coming from other countries or move messages that have already been marked back to their regular Inbox if they are from a trusted source. To stop users from interacting with possible spam or scams, messages labelled as cross-country may not send notifications. Instead, users will need to check the folder manually to see any international messages from unknown numbers they may have received.
