New Delhi, June 4: Google, the tech giant, has laid off around 100 employees across its Cloud Unit. These layoffs have affected a small but significant portion of the workforce within the Google Cloud unit. The Google cloud division has faced pressure to sustain its rapid growth rate as competition intensifies in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry.

As per a report of CNBC, Google cuts at least 100 jobs across cloud unit. The latest wave of job cuts is expected to focus on prioritising artificial intelligence (AI) development. The layoffs are incremental across teams to better align its "go to market" strategy. The affected employees had recently worked on Google Cloud Next, the company's annual conference held in mid-April. Microsoft Layoffs: Tech Giant To Lay Off Hundreds of Employees at Azure Cloud Unit; Check Details.

The decision might be a part of the company's strategy to streamline its operations and focus on its biggest priorities. Despite the layoffs, Google Cloud's revenue grew by 28 percent to USD 9.57 billion in the latest quarter. Operating income increased to USD 900 million demonstrating Google's progress in generating profits after years of significant investments in its cloud business.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasised that the company plans to minimise layoffs in the second half of 2024. Recently, Google has undergone significant restructuring, resulting in the elimination of at least 200 employees within its core organisation. The layoff had impacted key teams and engineering talent.

Despite the company's record profits, since early 2023, Google has been undergoing a series of layoffs. As a result, employees have expressed frustration regarding the increased pressure to meet tighter deadlines with limited resources. Ola Electric Layoffs: EV Maker To Lay Off Around 400–500 Employees in Restructuring Process; Check Details.
