Google Fixes Chrome Browser Bug After 15 Million Windows Users Unable To Find or Save Passwords for Around 18 Hours
Google fixed a bug in the Chrome M127 version that prevented around 15 million Windows users from accessing or saving passwords for approximately 18 hours, and issued an apology, instructing users to restart their browsers to apply the changes.
New Delhi, July 29: Google has addressed a major problem with the Google Chrome browser that prevented many Windows users from being able to access or save their passwords. The issue reportedly started on July 24 and lasted for almost 18 hours until it was fixed by Google on July 25. According to reports, around 15 million Windows users were affected. The problem occurred in the Chrome browser’s M127 version. In response to the situation, Google reportedly admitted the issue and said sorry, instructing Chrome browser users to restart it so that the changes could be applied.
As per a report of Times Now report, Google fixed the Chrome bug that prevented Windows users from finding or saving passwords for around 18 hours. Following the incident, Google implemented a fix that restored access to passwords for affected users. The problem was reportedly due to a change in product behaviour without a proper feature guard. The incident disrupted users' ability to find passwords in Chrome’s Password Manager. Reports also suggest that the users were able to save passwords, however, it was not visible to them. Google engineers addressed the issue and agreed to provide a full incident report on detailed root cause analysis. According to a report of Forbes, Google has apologised for a bug that caused many Windows users to be unable to find their passwords using the Chrome password manager. The issue specifically affected users of the M127 version of Chrome Browser on Windows. The report also suggests that the configuration change affected 25 percent of the user base, which is approximately 750 million users. Out of these, around two percent experienced the password manager issue, which is about 15 million users had their passwords disappear.
