Tokyo, October 13: Game Freak, a Japanese video game developer known for its Pokémon RPG series, reportedly suffered a massive data breach, resulting in data theft. A massive amount of internal data related to the upcoming game title was leaked. The Game Freak data breach included critical information such as source codes of various games, BTS (behind-the-scenes) information and much more.
Nintendo Everything said in its report that the developer's data for the Pokémon video game series was hacked and leaked online. It said that the source codes of gaming titles, including Pokémon Heart Gold, Pokémon Soul Silver, and Black White 2, were leaked online. The report also said that the codenames of the 10th generation of the Pokémon games (reportedly Gaia) were also leaked. Further, data about Nintendo's next-gen console, Ounce, was also leaked online, as was the codename of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Ikkaku. The report also traces that the leaked information includes the codename "Synapse", which is expected to be an unreleased multiplayer title. It is anticipated to be an MMO (massively multiplayer online) or player-versus-player (PvP) game.
Other reports said neither Nintendo nor the Pokémon company have commented on the massive data leak. The hackers stole the assets of the Pokémon and released it online, which also included its music. Pokémon Legends: The Z-A video game is expected to be released in 2025 and likely on Nintendo Switch systems. The title is also expected to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 console, which is yet to be released.
