The world's oldest webcam, FogCam in San Francisco State University is going to off its operation after nearly 25 years of service. Back in 1994, two students from the university, Jeff Schwartz and Dan Wong set up the webcam to steam part of the university campus. Even they did not expect it will go on for a quarter of a century. The San Francisco FogCam website mentioned that the camera will shut down forever at the end of this month. Beware of 'Sextortion Scam!' August 30 will be the last day for FogCan streaming. The founders Schwartz and Wong, known by their screen names Webdog and Danno wrote a thankful message to all the viewers and the people from the State University. "The Internet has changed dramatically since 1994, but FogCam will always have a special place in its history," the site reads. They also announced their decision to shut down on Twitter.

A lot of people were not happy with the announcement. Some of them asked if they can contribute monetarily to keep it running. Talking about their decision Schwartz told SFGate, "We felt it was time to let it go. The bottom line is that we no longer have a really good view or place to put the camera. The university tolerates us, but they don't really endorse us and so we have to find secure locations on our own." He also mentioned that it was their pet project that people really liked so they kept it going.
The webcam has been in continuous service for the last 25 years. The device has stayed through the evolving of the internet until the era of social media platforms. The FogCam sure creates history, the first-ever webcam in the world was called Trojan room coffee pot in the Cambridge University. Created by Dr Paul Jardetzky and Dr Stafford-Fraser it was created in 1991, preceding even the internet! The scientists wanted to check the status of the coffee in the computer lab room. It was connected to the web only after 1993. However, it was taken down in the year 2001. This invention served as an inspiration to world's oldest webcam, FogCam which is now set to retire on August 30.
