Brasilia, September 19: Elon Musk's X has been banned in Brazil following the order by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who also ordered the company's assets frozen in the country. Users were able to access the platform via VPN by far; however, the latest update has allowed them to bypass the ban, according to an association of Brazilian internet providers.
According to a report by CNBCTV18, Elon Musk's social platform was banned in Brazil amid a conflict of interest between the tech billionaire and an SC judge related to blocking some accounts in the country. After the update, Brazilians found that the app was working fine, which made them question whether or not the ban was lifted. The report highlighted that the Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications, or ABRINT, explained that X changed its structure to use the IP addresses associated with Cloudflare, a service provider that protects websites by filtering traffic and enhancing security.
The structural changes in X made it complicated to block it in the country. Earlier, Elon Musk's platform used specific IP addresses, which made it possible for internet companies to identify the origin of the data. Most of the IP addresses that X uses are now shared with banks, large internet platforms, and other legitimate services, making it impossible to block them without affecting their services.
Elon Musk's X said that these changes were temporary, which helped the company change its network providers in the country; however, soon, they will be inaccessible. Still, the platform confirmed that it will continue to work with the Brazilian government to restore its services in the country again.
