Austin, July 19: Elon Musk's Tesla announced massive layoffs around this year, affecting thousands of people amid slow demand, price wars with competitors, and other reasons related to cutting costs. Tesla CEO Elon Musk laid off people from several departments and even cut senior roles by sending emails. The Tesla layoffs affected around 10% of employees, and the company witnessed a 14% dip in the total workforce by June 2024, as per a report.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Elon Musk's Tesla plans to hire 800 new employees after announcing massive layoff rounds three months ago. The report called the Tesla layoffs round the second biggest in the company's history, cutting thousands of jobs. Tesla posted the job opening for the roles after it added USD 223 billion to its market capitalisation in the past 14 trading days, according to the report. The report mentioned that the Tesla stock hit a high except in one session when the company postponed its plans to unveil the prototypes of the upcoming Robotaxi. Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly asked the team to make changes to the design, and the team demanded more time to work on the vehicle. 

In previous months, Elon Musk's Tesla missed its target of expected sales of EVs, which resulted in the company witnessing a 20% increase in quarterly deliveries. Now, the EV maker focuses on hiring people for its AI and robotics products, such as the Optimus humanoid robot.
