As per a report of CNBC, Alcon Entertainment, a production company behind Blade Runner 2049, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery. The lawsuit is about allegedly infringing the copyright by using artificial intelligence to create images from the movie Blade Runner 2049 to promote Tesla’s Robotaxi concept. Warner Bros. Discovery and Tesla requested permission to use the film's imagery a few hours before the We, Robot demo took place on the Warner Bros. lot in California on October 10, according to a report of The Verge. As per reports, the lawsuit claims that an AI image generator was used to create promotional artwork for the We, Robot event, which was intended to look like the stills from the 2017 science fiction film. Warner Bros. Discovery does hold some licensing rights for Blade Runner 2049. However, they needed to get direct permission from Alcon Entertainment to use the images since the event was going to be live-streamed worldwide. When Alcon’s legal and licensing teams found out about the situation, they allegedly refused to allow the use of the images. In the lawsuit filed by Alcon Entertainment, the company does not specify the exact amount of money they are seeking in damages. However, they reportedly stated that they believe Elon Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery were aware that the use of the image was unauthorised and that it was being used for an improper purpose, which has led to a legal dispute.
