Singapore City, October 4: Dyson, a global household appliances maker from the UK, has announced massive job cuts at its Singapore headquarters. The layoffs have affected several employees working with the tech company. Dyson decided to eliminate specific jobs due to redundancy. The British-originated home appliance maker suddenly told the workers they were redundant and no longer required to run the operations.
According to various reports, the Dyson layoffs were "surprising" to some employees because they were announced unexpectedly. The job cuts were shocking to them because three months earlier, the company had already told the employees that the global headquarters would remain "unaffected" by the restructuring efforts that the company had previously adopted. Prior to this latest round of Dyson layoffs, the tech firm had laid off around 1,000 staffers in the UK. According to a report by ABP Live, one of the employees affected by the layoffs said that the layoffs were abrupt and that the reason given to them was that the jobs were "redundant." The individual said that he, along with others, was told to pack their things and prepare to leave Dyson.
The Dyson layoffs-affected employee further reportedly said that he could not determine the exact numbers of the people who called into the room with the HR representative; however, the person said he had seen lots of envelopes. The employee further remarked that people were in shock and had low morale as they were uncertain when their turn might come. The report highlighted that another employee noted people leaving with their bags, and the person, at that time, thought they would be going out or to another office, but they were actually leaving. The job cuts came as a "surprise" to many as the company had announced to invest a maximum amount in the region. Previously, the tech company laid off people at Johor Bahru in Malaysia. Dyson spokesperson highlighted the move and said that the company constantly evolved the team and took steps to have the "right skills in right place". The spokesperson further said that Dyson's goal for Singapore would remain unchanged and continue to grow in the region.
