San Francisco, August 25: Krystal Cano, a former senior technical recruiter at DoorDash, faced significant challenges after being laid off in August 2022. She shared her journey helping the tech people who were affected during mass layoffs and personal struggles with her mother suffering from cancer. She took time off to travel and recharge. However, when she came back to Orange County, California, in March 2023, Krystal Cano met with a severe car accident. The crash left her with multiple injuries, including an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury. It put her to bed rest and her struggles became worst when she was gripped with depression.
Despite the physical and emotional toll, Cano decided to use this time for self-improvement. She draw inspiration from American basketball Kobe Bryant's "Mamba mentality," she began exploring AI through webinars, LinkedIn Learning courses, and conferences. Her interest in AI grew, prompting her to consider further education in the field. A conversation with an Apple manager, who noted the difficulty of getting into Apple compared to elite institutions like MIT and Harvard, led Cano to apply for MIT's professional certificate program in innovation and technology. In June, Krystal Cano was accepted into the program, fulfilling a long-held dream. She began her studies in July, with plans to leverage her newfound knowledge to build a career coaching business that integrates AI and neuropsychology. Simultaneously, she is applying for AI recruiter roles to support herself while pursuing her education and business ambitions.
