Mumbai, August 25: Cybercrimes in Navi Mumbai have reportedly risen recently as criminals have found new ways to dupe the people and get money. Cyber fraud is a global issue where criminals earn millions of dollars by fooling people into giving them money. The amount, at first, may seem small but the criminals target more people, making more in the process.

Times of India said in a report that the cyber crooks found different ways to target exploitable people and took advantage of them. The report mentioned that these fraudsters usually sent a simple "link" to the victims and hacked their smartphones and thereby their e-wallets for financial gain. Pavel Durov Arrested: Russian Embassy in France Taking ‘Immediate Steps’ To Clarify Situation Over Arrest of Telegram CEO.

Mumbai responded to such cyber fraud activities was announcing a 24x7 helpline number and a WhatsApp channel as a project pilot. The WhatsApp channel was launched by the Navi Mumbai police to caution the public about the cyber crimes happening in the city. It was also introduced as a preventive measure to alert the people not to fall prey to the schemes of these fraudsters.

DGP Rashmi Shukla visited Navi Mumbai and publicly inaugurated the helpline number and the WhatsApp group, according to the report. The Police commissionaire Milind Bharambe emphasised that the cybercrimes in share market trading scams were also increased and advised people to be aware before investing.

The police commissioner further highlighted that some unknown scammers first provided the victims with higher returns to gain their trust. The victims, expecting a higher return, then would invest a huge amount but later find out that they were fooled and cheated by the cybercriminals. Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal Wonders Why Dollar Sign $ Is Not Replaced With Indian Rupee Sign ₹ in Products Sold in India, Gets 'Logical' Answers From Netizens.
