New York, October 7: Chinese hackers successfully hacked the US broadband service providers' network and accessed information about the federal government's court-authorised wiretapping systems. The cybercriminals were reportedly able to breach the leading telecom service providers in the United States.
According to a report by Reuters, Verizon Communications, Lumens Technologies, and AT&T were among the leading telecommunication service providers in the US that suffered network breaches. The report said that the hackers could have had access to these companies' network infrastructure for months to cooperate with the court-authorised US requests for data communication. The report mentioned that Chinese hackers also had access to other parts of the internet traffic. In response to the allegations made by the WSJ report, the Chinese foreign ministry said that it was not aware of such attempts. It retaliated by saying that in the past, the US had concocted a false narrative against China and tried to frame it.
Reuters said that the Chinese foreign ministry said that all countries in the world were facing cybersecurity issues, and such an erroneous approach would hinder the efforts of the international community. It said that such an approach would not allow the community to address the challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
