With growing consumer demands, smartphone companies are on a fast lane to provide high-tech devices without cutting out on quality, which has been quite a challenge. A pressing matter for most phone users is durability. Last week, a Youtuber conducted a durability test on the flagship smartphone – Oppo Find X – which the device failed to withstand. Considering that smartphones are used extensively in our daily lives, they go through a lot of abuse such as withstanding falls and scrapes, causing them a lot of damage. And now, we may have an answer to these problems thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which can apparently withstand as many as 15 drops at the height of 1 meter.
Here's the video of the upcoming Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
The new Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is said to be two times stronger than its predecessor and is Corning’s most durable cover glass to date. But don’t be fooled by its toughness. The glass is also designed to be efficient at wireless charging, apart from being scratch resistant and water-proof. The glass also brags of improved optical clarity and touch sensitivity. Also, taking into account the glass backs of the phones, the new Corning Gorilla glass can be customised by 3D printing, which will give various options on texture, colours and patterns. Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass, John Bayne said, “As consumers become more dependent on their smartphones, the opportunity for potentially damaging drops is also on the rise. Now more than ever, it’s critical the cover glass provides outstanding protection,” further mentioned, “Corning Gorilla Glass 6 improves upon Gorilla® Glass 5 by surviving drops from higher heights, but, more importantly, has been engineered to survive multiple drops.” The tough glass cover may be released by the end of the year.
