CamScanner, Popular Android PDF Creator App, Found Loaded With Trojan-Dropper Malware, Removed From Google Play Store Briefly

Hidden malware has been discovered in the popular phone-based PDF creator Android app CamScanner, as warned by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky in their latest blog post. It claimed that the app was removed briefly from the Play Store after the finding was reported to Google. The app has more than 100 million downloads on the Google Play Store. The malicious component of the app is known as Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Necro.n module found in recent versions of CamScanner, and it has the potential to download more malicious modules on a user’s device without them knowing about it.

According to the blog post, CamScanner initially had no malicious intentions, but that that changed at some point as recent versions of the app contain advertising library with a malicious module. According to the Next Web report, Google removed the app from the Play Store after Kaspersky reported their findings, but it has since been reinstated after the app developers removed the malicious code in their latest update.
