Mumbai, August 11: BSNL recently launched its 4G network across multiple regions in India and promised to allow customers to convert to 5G networks soon. The government-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited also added 15,000 more towers. The Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also said the telecommunication company would install 80,000 towers in October and more than 21,000 by March 2025.

Recently, fake news was being spread by a website about BSNL launching a 5G phone with specifications unmatched by others in the market. The rumours spread by online websites gained the attention of users looking for a smartphone with excellent specifications within their budget. It was rumoured that the smartphone would have a 120Hz display with 1080x2400 pixel resolution and offer 4K video recording capabilities. The 7,000mAh battery on the device was rumoured to have 100W fast-charging capability. The fake reports also said the BSNL 5G phone would offer a 32MP ultrawide camera, an 8MP depth-sensing camera, and a 200MP primary camera. The fake report claimed that it would have a 32MP front-facing camera offering 10x zoom.
It was also posted that the BSNL smartphone would be available with 6GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, and 12GB+512GB RAM and storage options. The fake report also claimed that the smartphone price would start from INR 3,999 to INR 5,999, along with an INR 1000 and INR 2000 discount, making the effective price of the smartphone INR 1,999 and INR 2,999. Is It True About BSNL Launching a 5G Smartphone?
BSNL shared a post on X calling out such reports as "fake". The government-run telecom company said, "Don't fall for #FakeNews! on X and shared a screenshot of a website titled "Technical Ranjay" spreading misinformation about the BSNL 5G Phone. This was the false report that BSNL shared on its X handle, warning users not to believe it. So, it is clear that BSNL will not launch a 5G smartphone. Upon checking, our team found more such fake news on the same website about the BSNL 5G smartphone having 6,000mAh battery and 120MP camera.
