Mumbai, August 7: Government-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started implementing its 4G network across several regions across India to build more towers and reach more users in the future. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently said that BSNL subscribers were rising and the Indian 4G network was ready. BSNL's entry into the 5G segment is also expected to be soon, which will help the company join other telecom giants like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also affirmed that BSNL would install 80,000 towers by the end of October 2024 and 21,000 more by March 2025. This would give the company over 1 lakh towers installed in India. Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the homegrown 4G network was ready under Atmanirbhar Bharat, and BSNL would soon launch the services across India. TCS, Infosys Lose Most Market Capitalisation Amid Broad-Based Selloffs Due to Fear of Recession in Global Market, RBI Policy Meet Next Week To Provide Details.

Why Did BSNL Not Launch 4G Network After Jio, Airtel and VI?

In some areas, BSNL subscribers still use 3G networks and have yet to witness the 4G technology. The government-run company has yet to implement a 5G network across the country when there are talks about the future of 6G networks. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted that BSNL did not roll out the 4G services in India after Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone because of PM Narendra Modi's resolution to develop a homegrown 4G network and not use equipment from China or any other country.

He emphasised that the decision was to develop and use indigenous technology. The Union Minister highlighted the vision of the Prime Minister of India, saying that under Atmanirbhar Bharat, the country would build its own 4G stack and core system or towers known as RAN (Radiation Access Network). The Indians would use this 4G network technology, he said. Jyotiraditya Scindia added, "...it took us one and a half years". He said Bharat became the first country to possess its own technology worldwide with this move. Tata Group’s Semiconductor Plant in Assam To Produce 4.8 Crore Chips Daily, Create 28,000 Jobs, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw.

BSNL has reportedly started issuing its 5G SIM cards to some states in India. The users have already posted the photos of having such SIM cards. The government-run telecommunication company would soon convert its 4G network into 5G in the future. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia already showed this technology by doing video call using BSNL 5G network.
