Tim Cook might soon have to hand over the CEO position to someone else as retirement age approaches. According to a report by India Today, that someone would be John Ternus, who has been working with Apple for more than 23 years. The report said he had played an "instrumental" role in shaping the iconic Apple products such as iPad, iPhone and AirPods. For the Apple CEO position, there might be other rightful candidates, such as Apple COO Jeff Williams, who was previously considered a possible successor. However, the report said that John Ternus had been a long-time loyalist and could be the next Apple CEO who might replace Tim Cook. John Ternus, being a long-time employee of Apple, had been crucial in transforming the company's iconic products and succesfully leading the transition from Mac to Apple Silicon.
Tim Cook was born on November 1, 1960, which makes him 63 years old. In November 2024, he will turn 64 and reach retirement age. So, the Apple board of directors would need to appoint a successor to lead the tech giant into future endeavours. The report shared that John Ternus's track record favoured the likelihood of becoming the next Apple CEO. Ternus worked as a mechanical engineer at Virtual Research Systems and got his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Jeff Williams might not be Apple's next CEO because of his age. He is 61 years old, which might make the board members think twice about his appointment. The report mentioned other potential candidates for the CEO role, including Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering; Dan Ricco, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering; and Deirdre O'Brien, senior Vice President of Retail. Further, the report said Phil Schiller (Apple Fellow) could be appointed as Apple's next CEO.
