New Delhi, October 10: Apple’s Vision Pro leader, Dan Riccio, is reportedly stepping down from his role this month after a long and successful career at the tech giant. Riccio has played a key part in Apple’s major hardware innovations, including overseeing the company's push into mixed reality with the Vision Pro headset. Riccio’s departure marks the end of an era, as he previously led Apple’s hardware engineering team, managing high-profile projects for over 26 years at Apple.
As per a report of Bloomberg, Dan Riccio, who has been the lead of Apple’s Vision Pro development and once headed the company’s hardware engineering, will retire this month. Riccio’s legacy includes his leadership in hardware, which played a key role in Apple’s innovative product lines. He joined Apple in 1998 and moved up the ranks. Riccio has worked at Apple for 26 years. Before he became the Senior Vice President of hardware engineering in 2012, he was in charge of the iPad division, according to a report of The Verge. In 2021, John Ternus took over Riccio’s role as Senior Vice President of hardware engineering. At that time, Riccio shifted to lead a new project, which was later revealed to be Apple’s VR headset. He was also involved in other projects like the Apple Car, which never came into existence, and the Vision Pro headset. According to multiple reports, he has been in charge of teams working on various Apple products over the years. It included leading the development of iPhone, iPad, and Mac launches. During his time as the head of hardware, Riccio played a key role in the development of some of Apple’s most successful products, such as the AirPods and the larger iPhone models. The Vision Products Group will now be managed by John Ternus. There have been rumours that Ternus could be a possible candidate to take over as CEO when Tim Cook eventually steps down.
