The long battle between the two Top Tech Giants is coming to a finale. This battle dates back around 7 years from now when Apple filed a lawsuit alleging Samsung over copying its iPhone design for monetary gains and popularity among the consumers.

On Thursday, a unanimous decision by a jury in the U.S. District Court in California issued Samsung to pay Apple USD 539 million for infringing five patents affecting a number of Android handsets that the Korean tech giant sold in 2010 and 2011.

In a statement expressing Apple’s gratitude towards the jury, “Agreed that Samsung should pay for copying our products. We believe deeply in the value of design. This case has always been about more than money,” Apple said in its statement.

Apple also stated, “Apple ignited the smartphone revolution with iPhone and it is a fact that Samsung blatantly copied our design. It is important that we continue to protect the hard work and innovation of so many people at Apple.”

Apple this year expressed to the jury that it is entitled to USD 1 billion for the Profits Samsung reaped by the infringing their phones. Whereas Samsung disagreed by stating that it should only pay for the profits of the components that infringed Apple patents and reduced the claim to USD 28 million.

While the courts had already accepted that Samsung had infringed patents belonging to its rival, it has still not decided on how much Samsung should pay also whether the damages should relate to the entire phone or the individual components linked to the infringed patents.
