Cupertino, May 27: Apple considered both the OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini for its smartphones. However, the iPhone maker finally closed the deal with Microsoft-backed OpenAI instead of Gemini AI. According to a report, Apple is still considering partnering with Google even if the agreement was finalised with the microsoChatGPT-developer.

Business Standard reported that Apple had previously agreed on a deal with OpenAI to introduce ChatGPT to its upcoming iOS 18 update, likely during the Apple WWDC 2024 event scheduled on June 10 to June 14. The report mentioned that Apple considered pursuing a deal with Google to bring the Gemini AI chatbots and features to the upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference event. Apple OpenAI Deal: Tech Giant Finally Closes Agreement With ChatGPT-Developer To Use AI Technology to Its iPhone and Other Devices, Says Report.

The report mentioned that Apple did not feel comfortable considering OpenAI as a "single-source supplier" for integrating AI features on iOS 18. The report said that Apple may have changed its thinking towards the Sam Altman-run company following the recent allegations by Scarlett Johansson over using 'Sky' voice, similar to Samantha's character she played in Her movie. Despite OpenAI denied using similar voice to Scarlett, the resemblance was spotted by people. According to reports, OpenAI paused ChatGPT's Sky voice.

According to the report by Business Standard, the other reason could have been the firing of Sam Altman last year, highlighting the "precarious corporate structure". The report mentioned that it created a crisis for the employees of the AI company and  Microsoft. Even if Apple could close a deal with Google for Gemini artificial intelligence technology, the report said it would be highly unlikely that the iPhone maker would introduce it to the iOS 18.

During the Apple WWDC 2024 event, Apple is expected to make big AI announcements, and OpenAI might reportedly play a vital role. The Cupertino-based tech giant reportedly plans to bring artificial intelligence features to its iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. With the introduction of AI, Apple might compete with the ruling Samsung Galaxy S24 series. Apple WWDC 2024 Rumours: Tech Giant Likely To Launch These 10 AI-Powered Features on iOS 18 During Its Worldwide Developer Conference Event, Says Report.

Apple recently unveiled its OpenELM, an Efficient Language Model Family. However, the report also said that the tech giant had been working on a new indigenous LLM called "Ajax" internally. Still, the company was sceptical about competing against the big players like ChatGPT, Gemini, and others.
