Cupertino, November 12: Apple has slowly gained its edge over the competition by adopting artificial intelligence, i.e., Apple Intelligence, and a mixed reality headset, i.e., Vision Pro. It is expected to introduce its new foldable smartphone soon, along with other products. According to recent reports, the Cupertino-based tech giant would likely introduce a smart home camera and begin production by 2026. However, a report said that Apple may not launch a smart ring.

After Samsung introduced its Galaxy AI this year, the smartphone market saw a surge of AI features in the operating systems. Apple, despite being slow to adopt, introduced its highly anticipated Apple Intelligence. However, a report by CNBC said that Oura CEO Tom Hale informed us that Apple might not launch a "smart ring" because it would be hard to do. iPhone 17 Air Launching in 2025 May Not Be ‘Thinner’ As Expected Due to Battery Challenges Faced by Apple: Report.

It is already rumoured that Apple might introduce its smart ring or Apple Ring, likely in the future, offering unique specifications and features for brand enthusiasts and customers alike. Samsung already launched its highly anticipated ring for all in 2024 with several health-tracking features. The rings are praised by the experts for being small to carry and an ideal replacement for smartwatches, which are a little bulky on the wrist and have to be removed while sleeping.

Although Apple already penetrated the smartwatch segment with its Apple Watches, Tom Hale, CEO of Oura, said that Apple may not enter the segment. Oura was established in 2013 and has been developing smart rings for a longer period. During a Web Summit held in Lisbon, Portugal, Hale told the press that Apple was unconvinced about the value of having a ring and a watch together and would not take interest in undercutting Apple Watch as a business.

He said that Apple may have kept a close eye on Samsung and Oura for developing a smart ring, but he said, "It's hard to do this product category right." Apple is primarily focused on its Apple Watches as a device that offers health-related information and has invested a lot in developing its features and apps. However, having a smart ring is a convenient way to get all the health-related information. iPhone SE 4 May Launch in March 2025; Check Expected Price, Specifications and Features.

Smart rings are easier to carry and also last long in terms of battery life. Due to these qualities, the Apple Ring might be a good option to wear all day and night to measure health-related information. On the other hand, smartwatches may be good sources of such information, but they are a little heavy to carry on the wrist. Oura CEO Hale said that Apple, focused on the smartwatch, would make it its own platform and might not get into the smart ring segment.
