Apple with the launch of its latest line-up of iPhones has taken a step further into the future, in means of how upcoming phones would be. The Cupertino based company unveiled yesterday, the next-generation iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS and iPhone XR, which features new things like Super Retina OLED display, stereo surround sound, Dolby Vision, HDR 10, 3D Touch technology and much more. But, the list also showcased something called eSIM. Apple had earlier introduced eSIM back in 2017 when it launched Apple Watch 3 Series. The smartwatch used the same technology what it is using in the current new iPhones. So what exactly is eSIMS? Well, as the name suggest its an electronic or an embedded SIM, which has no physical part to it. The eSIM comes pre-installed in the device and can set up through a software. Apple’s new iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS and iPhone XR smartphones support dual network connectivity option that has a combination of nanoSIM + eSIM. The process by which the smartphones will be able to receive and make calls from both SIMs, which Apple calls it the Dual SIM Dual Standby technology. Here’s a step by step guide on how you can enjoy the new eSIM function in your device.

Step 1: Open the Settings option on your device.

Step 2: Then select Cellular, after which add a Cellular Plan.

Step 3: You will then receive a QR Code from the carrier service selected.

Step 4: Scan the QR Code, and then you will be asked to fill in your details manually.

Step 5: After that select the behaviour to want your carrier service to be like, for example; Use as a Primary eSIM or as a Secondary eSIM or only for data usage. And you are done with the installation.

Currently, in India, networks like Reliance Jio and Airtel are offering eSIM support. And further in time, we may also see Vodafone Idea LTD supporting the eSIM service. Apple also announced that market excluding China would receive the eSIM + nanoSIM version of the iPhones, while the Chinese market will get a new model of the iPhones with a dual nanoSIM option.
