Apple Employees Strike: Workers at Apple Towson Town Center Vote To Authorise Strike Over Concerning Working Conditions, Says Report

Employees working at Apple Towson Town Centre voted to authorise strike demanding company to pay attention their working condition issues. Apple employee strike in Maryland, US, will be attended and union representing employees will be engaged by Apple, said a spokesperson.

Towson, May 13: Apple Store employees located in Towson, Maryland, in the United States, voted in favour of the strike over working conditions two years ago. The decision by the Apple Store workers made the Apple retail location in the US first to unionise. According to a report, the Apple Towson Town Centre employees now have authorised a strike after year-long negotiations with the company, and the Apple management yielded unsatisfactory outcomes. 

According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple Store employees at Towson voted to authorise a strike on Saturday, May 11, 2024. The report said that the date for the strike has yet to be set. The report said that the union which is part of the International Association of Machinists announced the vote in a press release. It said that the year-long negotiations with Apple management did not yield satisfactory outcomes, and IAM CORE members had to take a major step by voting for the strike at Apple's Towson store. The strike is said to signal the company about employee's collective demand for meaningful change in working conditions. 

Apple Towson Store Working Conditions 

The report further emphasised that the working conditions issues at Apple Towson Town Center including unpredictable scheduling practices that disrupted the employees' lives, concerns over work-life balance and the wages failing to justify their cost of living. The report said that two Apple stores in Oklahoma and Maryland had voted to unionise two years ago, in 2022. The report further explained that the Apple store in New Jersey did not support the movement and voted against unionising. The union blamed Apple's tactics "for the defeat". On the other hand, an Apple spokesperson said that the company deeply valued its team members and provided them exceptional benefits along with leading compensation. The spokesperson reportedly said to engage with the union representing Apple Towson Town Center employees in good faith.
