Apple is giving Rs. 3,900 credit to iPhone customers who paid for an out-of-warranty battery replacement for iPhone 6 or later devices. The credit amount will be provided as an electronic funds transfer or a credit on the credit card used to pay for the battery replacement service. Apple has confirmed that customers who paid for a battery replacement after warranty for their iPhone models from January 1st to December 28th, 2017, are eligible for the credit.
Last year, Apple confirmed that it had deliberately throttled performance on some iPhones to save on battery life and to avoid random or unexpected shutdowns. The same year new batteries were produced to resolve this problem and from December 28th, 2017 it offered battery replacements for affected handsets for $29 (Rs. 1,982) instead of the regular $79 (Rs. 5,401) price. This price reduction will be valid until the end of this year and is for iPhone 6 or later handsets. So customers who had purchased the battery replacement before the price reduction were declared are eligible for the credit.
The Tech Giant also promised its customers that they will be contacted personally via email if they are eligible for the credit. In case any customer who fails to get an email, Apple has requested its customers to contact Apple Support by December 31, 2018. To be noted though, this will be only considered if the battery replacements are done at an Apple authorised service location like an Apple Store, Apple Repair Centre and Apple Authorised Service Provider. Also, in-warranty iPhone battery replacements will not be entitled to the credit.
