New Delhi, August 28: Instagram has gone ahead and successfully removed a false account, which was impersonating Apple CEO Tim Cook. It is not uncommon in the world of social media to encounter fake accounts of important or famous people. One such fake accounts on Instagram of the tech giant CEO Tim Cook.
As per the reports, this particular fake account which was identified as "tim.d.cook." had been gaining a lot of followers including Apple Vice Presidents such as Apple VP for Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson and Apple Human Interface Design, Alan Dye. Even though it has been a known fact that the Apple CEO has his social media presence only on Twitter (now X) since the year 2013, and don’t have any other social media accounts, this particular fake account created a buzz and was able to convince people that it belonged to Cook. It is good to mention here that while Tim Cook has an account only on X, Apple and its other senior executives do maintain presence in several social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
This false Tim Cook Instagram account posted some photos shot with an iPhone and a video. The accounted posted on August 20 and 23, which highlight the iPhone 14 Pro's camera and LiDAR abilities, which makes the account seem authentic. Tim Cook believes that too much social media is bad for the mental health of the users and has been wary about the privacy of the platforms. Apple even introduced an anti-tracking feature with iOS 14.5, back in 2021, which was criticised by Meta, as the feature hurt the ad revenue. Tim Cook also doesn’t use Facebook (now Meta) or Threads (Meta’s new X contender).
Meanwhile Apple is preparing to launch the new iPhones 15 series reportedly on September 12. The new range of iPhones are said to come with new C-type charging ports ditching the Lighting charging ports, improved cameras, new chipsets and multi-action button. Apple’s new Macs with M3 chips are also expected to launch in October, 2023.
